About us

Local people. Local work.
For our coast.

Hancock County sits at Mississippi’s western Gulf edge — a place shaped by storms, neighbors, and the slow, stubborn work of taking care of each other.

The Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee is the county-level body of the Mississippi Democratic Party. We meet monthly, recruit and support candidates, and organize the voter registration and turnout work that keeps our democracy honest.

Our work is hyper-local: school boards, county supervisors, statehouse races, and the everyday business of making sure every eligible Hancock County resident can cast a ballot that counts.

You don’t have to be a longtime activist to belong here. Some of us were born and raised in Mississippi. Others found their way here later in life and chose to make Mississippi home. Most of us came in through a friend, a cause, or a lawn sign that didn’t quite fit the neighborhood. We made room, we kept showing up, and there’s a place at the table for you, too.

What we stand for

Our values.

Twelve principles that guide how we organize, who we support, and the Mississippi we’re working to build.
  • DEMOCRACY

Government should answer to the people — not corporations, billionaires, or extremists.

  • EQUALITY

Every person deserves equal rights, equal protection, and equal opportunity under the law.

  • DIGNITY

People working 40 hours a week should not live in poverty.

  • SAFE SCHOOLS

No child should ever be afraid of being shot at school.

  • FREEDOM

Freedom means personal liberty, bodily autonomy, free speech, and the right to live without fear or discrimination.

  • OPPORTUNITY

Every family deserves access to good jobs, healthcare, education, and affordable housing.

  • COMMUNITY

We are stronger when we support one another and reject division, hatred, and political violence.

  • CULTURAL DIFFERENCE

Different backgrounds, cultures, identities, and beliefs make our communities stronger — not weaker.

  • ACCOUNTABILITY

Public officials should serve the public honestly, ethically, and transparently.

  • SOCIAL JUSTICE

Every person deserves fairness, dignity, and protection from discrimination, poverty, and systemic inequality.

  • COMPASSION

A society is judged by how it treats children, workers, veterans, seniors, and vulnerable people.

  • HOPE

We believe Mississippi's future can be fairer, safer, kinder, and more democratic for everyone.

What’s on your ballot.

Mississippi’s election cycle is unusual — most state and county offices come up in odd years, and Waveland sits even further outside the pattern, holding its municipal election in December under a 19th-century special charter. Here’s what to expect from now through 2028.
